Palermo Launches Road Maintenance and Upgrade Projects Across Key City Areas

Palermo is embarking on a series of road maintenance and upgrade projects aimed at improving safety and accessibility in several key areas of the city. The initiatives will focus on Via Crispi, Via del Bersagliere, and Piazza Don Bosco, addressing critical infrastructure needs and enhancing the overall urban environment.

Road Improvements on Via Crispi

A significant portion of the project involves the resurfacing of Via Crispi, specifically on the sea side of the road between the Crispi underpass and Via dell’Arsenale. This work is intended to address the serious deterioration of the roadway and ensure safer conditions for motorists, public transportation, and pedestrians. As reported by Giornale Lora, the project is considered a crucial step in restoring one of Palermo’s main arteries.

Enhancements to Via del Bersagliere and Piazza Don Bosco

In addition to Via Crispi, the projects include the requalification of sidewalks along Via del Bersagliere and on the side of Piazza Don Bosco facing Via Di Giorgio. These improvements aim to enhance pedestrian accessibility and safety in these areas.

Comprehensive Waterfront Riqualification Project

Beyond the immediate maintenance work, a larger-scale waterfront requalification project for “Crispi” is underway. This initiative, funded with €12.5 million from FSC 2021–2027 funds, aims to redesign the city’s entrance from the port and improve traffic flow. Palermo Mobilita details that the project includes the construction of a new roundabout in Piazza della Pace, reduction of the central traffic divider on Via Crispi, and the widening of the roadway by approximately 1.5 meters on each side.

Commitment to Urban Improvement

According to Councilor for Public Works Totò Orlando, the administration is committed to continuously improving urban infrastructure and addressing critical issues within the city’s road network. These interventions are part of a broader maintenance program being implemented across various neighborhoods, with the goal of making Palermo safer, more accessible, and more well-maintained. AgenParl reports Orlando stating the administration’s dedication to these goals.

Future Developments

The waterfront requalification project also includes plans for a new pedestrian walkway, expected to be completed in 2027, further enhancing accessibility and connectivity in the area. Quotidiano di Palermo provides details on this future development.
