Patrick Kane Reaches Historic Milestone in Red Wings’ Victory Over Flames
DETROIT – Patrick Kane scored twice, propelling the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday night and simultaneously etching his name further into NHL history. With these two goals, Kane moved into sole possession of fourth place on the all-time goals list for U.S.-born players.
Kane’s Historic Night
Kane now boasts 504 career goals, surpassing Joe Mullen and trailing only Mike Modano (561), Keith Tkachuk (538), and Jeremy Roenick (513) among American-born goal scorers. Earlier this season, Kane surpassed Modano to grow the highest-scoring American-born player in NHL history. He has accumulated 1,383 career points in 1,355 games.
Red Wings Dominate Second Period
The Red Wings (37-23-8) responded emphatically after falling behind early, scoring three times in a 5:34 span in the second period. Kane was instrumental in this surge, scoring the first and third goals of the sequence. Emmitt Finnie, Moritz Seider, and Dominik Shine also found the back of the net for Detroit. Alex DeBrincat contributed significantly with three assists, whereas J.T. Compher added two.
Flames Struggle on Road Trip
For the Calgary Flames (26-34-7), it was another disappointing result on a challenging road trip. Matt Coronato scored a goal and added an assist, and Morgan Frost opened the scoring for Calgary, but it wasn’t enough. The Flames finished their five-game Eastern Conference road trip with a 1-4 record and have lost eight of their last ten games (2-7-1). Dustin Wolf made 20 saves in the loss.
Playoff Implications
Detroit’s win moves them one point ahead of the Boston Bruins for the first wild card spot into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. The Columbus Blue Jackets trail Detroit by three points, with two games in hand. John Gibson made 25 saves for the Red Wings.
Looking Ahead
The Red Wings will continue their four-game homestand on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens. The Flames return home to host the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday.
