Seixas Accuses Del Toro of Blocking Tactics at Strade Bianche

Paul Seixas, the 19-year-old French sensation from Decathlon CMA CGM, finished second at Strade Bianche on Saturday, March 6, 2026, behind Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG). While praising Pogačar’s strength, Seixas as well voiced frustration with the tactics employed by Pogačar’s teammate, Isaac del Toro, alleging deliberate obstruction during a crucial phase of the race.

Seixas’ Strong Performance and Pogačar’s Attack

Seixas demonstrated his impressive form by being the only rider able to initially respond to Pogačar’s race-winning attack 80km from the finish line. Though, his pursuit was hampered by a series of incidents involving del Toro. Prior to Strade Bianche, Seixas had already enjoyed a successful 2026 season, with a stage win and second overall at the Volta ao Algarve, and a victory at the Faun Ardèche Classic.

Del Toro’s Tactics and Seixas’ Frustration

According to Seixas, del Toro repeatedly impeded his progress while attempting to bridge the gap to Pogačar. “He blocked me. He really didn’t want me to pass. I’d overtake him and he’d overtake me again. He was holding me up in front,” Seixas stated after the race. Domestique Cycling reported on these comments.

Seixas also mentioned experiencing stomach cramps throughout the race, but downplayed their impact on his performance, stating his focus remained on competing. Cyclingnews detailed his comments regarding the cramps.

Pogačar’s Dominance and Seixas’ Future Prospects

Despite the challenges, Seixas acknowledged Pogačar’s superiority. “He was just stronger, you know. And he’s still the best rider in the world,” Seixas conceded. He expressed a desire to close the one-minute gap to Pogačar in future races. IDL Pro Cycling also reported on Seixas’s assessment of the race.

Seixas’ strong performance at Strade Bianche, following his successes at the Volta ao Algarve and Faun-Ardèche Classic, further solidifies his position as a rising star in professional cycling. He turned down offers from UAE Emirates XRG, Soudal Quick-Step, Lidl-Trek, EF Education EasyPost and Groupama-FDJ in 2024, choosing to remain with Decathlon CMA CGM, the team that supported his development.

Looking Ahead

Seixas will next compete in Itzulia Basque Country and the Ardennes Classics, where another showdown with Pogačar is anticipated. His performance at Strade Bianche has undoubtedly boosted his confidence and suggests he will be a formidable contender in upcoming races.
