Fuel prices continue to ease, offering welcome relief for motorists across Ireland. According to the latest AA Ireland fuel survey, petrol prices dipped by 2 cents in October, reaching €1.72 per litre. Diesel prices followed suit, dropping by 1 cent to an average of €1.66 per litre.
Falling Crude Oil Prices Provide Relief
AA Ireland highlighted the fluctuating nature of crude oil prices, currently hovering around $74 per barrel, as a contributing factor to the downward trend. While fluctuations remain, these lower prices translate into tangible savings at the pump for drivers.
Electric Vehicles See Cost Reductions
Electric vehicle owners are also benefiting from reduced costs. The survey reveals that running an EV, covering an average of 17,000 km annually, will now cost approximately €808.64 per year. This represents a significant decrease of €49 compared to last month. Jennifer Kilduff, Head of Marketing & PR for AA Ireland, explained:
“The EV driver is better off this month as a result of the standard 24-hour rates decreasing with energy provider Energia. We also know that Electric Ireland is reducing their rates from November 1, so rates will only continue to get better for EV drivers over the next few months.”
Tips for Maximizing Fuel Efficiency
While fuel prices are declining, AA Ireland emphasizes the importance of smart driving practices for maximizing fuel efficiency:
“Motorists can enhance fuel efficiency by reducing speed and regularly maintaining and servicing their vehicles according to the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines. This not only boosts fuel economy but also improves overall vehicle safety and performance,” added Kilduff.
