Prabowo’s Malaysia Visit Postponed Due to Illness

Kuala Lumpur – President Prabowo Subianto’s planned bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has been postponed after the Indonesian president fell ill and returned to Jakarta immediately following his visit to Egypt.

Anwar shared the news on his social media account on Monday, stating that the meeting, which was scheduled to take place in Langkawi, Kedah, was cancelled due to Prabowo suddenly developing a fever.

“My family and I have been in Langkawi Island today to receive the visit of my best friend, President Prabowo Subianto. However, last night, he asked to postpone the meeting due to fever.” – Anwar Ibrahim

Despite the postponement, Prime Minister Anwar expressed hope for a swift recovery for President Prabowo and a rescheduled meeting in the near future.

Upcoming Meetings and ASEAN Collaborations

Anwar also announced his upcoming meeting with former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on December 26. This meeting, according to Anwar, will focus on discussing ASEAN issues and strategic matters. Notably, Thaksin will serve as Anwar’s informal advisor during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, although he will not have any formal involvement in the ASEAN structure.

Cancelled Meeting Details

The previously planned meeting with President Prabowo was expected to address bilateral relations and ASEAN issues. Sources indicated that the meeting was intended to be a private, closed-door discussion.

Prabowo’s Activities Upon Return to Jakarta

Upon his arrival in Jakarta, President Prabowo convened a limited meeting with his aides to discuss Indonesia’s preparations for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays in 2024 and 2025, respectively. This meeting, held at the VVIP room of Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase, focused on government strategies to ensure order and security during the anticipated surge in public mobility during the holiday season.
