Prabowo Subianto Pushes for Indonesian Hajj Village in Saudi Arabia
President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, aims to establish a dedicated village for Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. The goal is to centralize their worship activities, ensuring a smoother and more organized pilgrimage experience.
Head of the newly formed Hajj Organizing Agency, Moch Irfan Yusuf, revealed this ambition after his inauguration alongside four other heads of special agencies by President Prabowo Subianto. Yusuf emphasized the President’s vision for enhanced Hajj organization, stating, “The president hopes Indonesia can have a Hajj village in Saudi Arabia. All activities of Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims can be centralized at one location.”
Currently, Indonesian pilgrims often disperse throughout various locations in Saudi Arabia, leading to logistical challenges. This centralized village would provide a dedicated space for pilgrims to gather, pray, and access essential services.
While collaborating with the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah Organizers of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Hajj Organizing Agency aims to fully implement this vision for 2025 Hajj. Yusuf expressed optimism for independent operation starting 2026. He stated, “In 2025, we will still collaborate with the Hajj Directorate. In 2026, we will work independently.”
This initiative reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to improving the Hajj pilgrimage experience for Indonesian citizens. Beyond providing safe and comfortable travel arrangements, the Hajj Village aims to foster a sense of community and shared faith among pilgrims.
