Former Royal Andrew Described as ‘Ghastly’ by Charity Professional

Sheila Bailey, a former charity executive with over a decade of experience working alongside Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has publicly described the former Royal as a “ghastly man.” Bailey’s comments come amid renewed scrutiny following Andrew’s recent release from police custody after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Years of Interaction

Bailey, who hails from Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland, met with the former Prince twice a year for 12 years in her role as chair of the Royal Aero Club, where he served as president. The Royal Aero Club is the national coordinating body for air sports in the United Kingdom. She previously served as chief executive of the Ireland Fund of Great Britain and was awarded the Freedom of the City of London for her service to the Irish Community.

Character Assessment

According to Bailey, Andrew was “rude, entitled, and threw his weight around, often making jokes at other people’s expense.” She stated, “I worked with him for 12 years, and he was a ghastly man. The nicest thing I can say about him was that he was an arrogant buffoon.” Bailey also recounted an instance where Andrew walked out of an awards ceremony.

Concerns for the Royal Family

Bailey expressed concern about the potential impact of the allegations on the Royal Family, stating, “This is very serious stuff now, more serious than ever before, and I don’t realize if the Royal family will survive it.” She believes Prince William and Princess Katherine are likely considering the future of the monarchy and their children. Bailey acknowledged that while Andrew is presumed innocent until proven guilty, public opinion holds significant weight, particularly when it begins to affect official events and public perception of the King and other family members.

Past Collaboration with Prince Philip

In contrast to her experience with Andrew, Bailey fondly remembered working alongside the late Prince Philip on the 50th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, describing him as “an extraordinary man.”

Bailey currently works on projects for several international charities.
