Prince George, British Columbia, experienced a gas leak on Saturday, March 14, 2026, leading to an emergency alert and the evacuation of residents in the Heritage area. Initial Evacuation and Alert
The City of Prince George issued an emergency alert around 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, ordering immediate evacuation for residents north of Fifth Avenue to Zion Lutheran Church and east of Tabor Boulevard west of Voyageur Drive. The alert stated the gas leak posed a threat to human life .
Reduced Evacuation Zone and Ongoing Work
Authorities have since reduced the evacuation zone to the immediate area surrounding the leak. Prince George Fire Rescue crews, RCMP and FortisBC crews are on scene working to address the underground gas leak . Power has been shut off in the impacted area as a safety precaution.
Evacuation Center and Accommodation
Initially, residents were directed to evacuate to Zion Lutheran Christian Church on Tabor Boulevard, where emergency staff were available to assist . Most evacuees have made arrangements with friends or family. However, residents of units 101-108 at 448 Tabor Boulevard have been provided with alternative accommodations by the City of Prince George . Return to Homes and Business Closures
Most evacuees are expected to be able to return home once power is restored . Nearby businesses, including a Shell gas station and a McDonald’s, were temporarily closed during the evacuation .
Current Status
As of March 14, 2026, the City of Prince George continues to monitor the situation and provide updates to residents. Residents of Carrier Place, Carrier Avenue, and Explorer Crescent that were initially inside the evacuation zone are now permitted to return home .
