€26,000 Podcast: Probation Service Expands Reach with Audio Series
The Irish Probation Service has invested €26,740 to produce a six-part podcast series titled “On Probation,” aiming to boost public understanding of the agency’s work.
Hosted by comedian Colm O’Regan, known for his books “Bollockslogiy” and “The Book of Irish Mammies,” the podcast features interviews with probation officers, community workers, and former offenders.
High Production Costs, Notable Fees
The hefty budget allocated to the series reveals a significant financial commitment to audio content. O’Regan’s hosting fees alone accounted for €13,530 (€2,255 per episode), while production costs, including recording, editing, and studio hire, amounted to €13,210.
Interestingly, the Probation Service did not compensate guests for their participation.

“On Probation” also delves into the work of CoSA (Circles of Support and Accountability), an organization that assists individuals convicted of sexual offenses in reintegrating into society.
The Probation Service emphasizes the podcast’s aim to educate the public about the complexities of the criminal justice system and the services they provide.
