PlayStation 5 achieves Record Sales, Surpassing PS4
At the recent Tokyo Game Show, alongside the State of Play presentation, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed impressive figures regarding its business performance. CEO hideaki Nishino announced that the PlayStation 5 is now the “Most successful generation” in the company’s history.
The console has driven the game and Network Services division to generate a remarkable $136 billion in revenue. This surpasses the performance of the previous generation, the PS4. The PS4, which had a longer lifespan (2013-2019), achieved $107 billion in the same segment.
Nishino rightly pointed out the importance of considering fluctuating dollar/yen exchange rates when comparing these eras. He also clarified that these figures represent overall console sales estimates. It’s also worth noting that the PS4 continued to receive new game releases even after the PS5’s launch, including several cross-gen titles developed internally.
