Paris Saint-Germain Winger Undergoes Successful Surgery in Doha
Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha, Qatar.
The 25-year-old Georgia captain sustained the serious knee injury during PSG’s 4-2 Champions League victory against Barcelona on Oct. 20. Kvaratskhelia received medical attention early in the second half at Parc des Princes following a challenge with Xavi Espart before leaving the pitch with assistance from club staff.
The procedure and subsequent rehabilitation will likely sideline the winger for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign. A return during the 2027/28 season stands as the most realistic timeline, though the club has not established an official recovery schedule.

Ballon d’Or Absence and Squad Impact
The scheduling of the operation forced Kvaratskhelia to miss the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday night. The former Napoli player entered the gala as one of the favorites for the prize before Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane claimed the award. Kvaratskhelia finished sixth in the voting, securing the highest placement among PSG’s nine nominees.
The long-term absence compounds selection challenges for manager Luis Enrique. PSG is already missing France forward Ousmane Dembélé and club captain Marquinhos due to thigh injuries. Before his injury, Kvaratskhelia recorded one goal, one assist, and 13 created chances across nine combined appearances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
Desire Doue, Ferran Torres, and Maghnes Akliouche are among the players competing for increased minutes in Kvaratskhelia’s absence. Despite the personnel losses, Luis Enrique stated that the club does not intend to enter the transfer market for a replacement.
“No injury means that we absolutely must sign a new player,” Luis Enrique said. “Since the start of the season, I’ve always said that we could cope with any injuries.”

Supporter Reactions and Upcoming Fixtures
Ahead of kickoff at the Parc des Princes for a Ligue 1 fixture against Lyon on Monday night, supporters displayed solidarity by unfurling a large banner along the Auteuil Stand reading, “Kvara, the red and blue people are with you.” PSG defeated Lyon 2-0 in that match, maintaining their position at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
