Paris Saint-Germain Demolishes Villarreal at Estadio de la Ceramica
Paris Saint-Germain scored four goals in the opening 17 minutes on Tuesday to defeat Villarreal 6-0 in Spain. Joao Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute at the Estadio de la Ceramica, setting up a record-setting early onslaught in Europe’s elite club competition.
Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu, and Fabian Ruiz quickly followed with goals before the 20-minute mark, establishing the fastest four-goal flurry by any team in Europe’s elite club competition. Ruiz added his second early in the second half, and 17-year-old debutant David Boly rounded out the scoring for the reigning champions.
Injuries Mount as Luis Enrique Extends Winning Streak
Paris Saint-Germain entered the fixture missing several prominent contributors. Winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during a previous match against Barcelona, leaving him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. Ousmane Dembele, captain Marquinhos, and Nuno Mendes also missed the trip to Spain due to injuries.
Despite those absences, Luis Enrique’s squad secured their tenth victory across all competitions.
“I obviously wasn’t expecting that, but you get matches where you start in that way,” PSG’s Spanish coach Luis Enrique told broadcaster Canal Plus. “We were impressive throughout and we are really pleased even if it is very difficult for Villarreal – but it is hard when you play against a team like us that presses constantly.”
Historical Contrast in the Champions League
The outcome marked the heaviest home defeat ever suffered by a Spanish club in the Champions League. While Paris Saint-Germain claimed maximum points from their first four matches and have scored 20 goals in their winning run, Villarreal struggled significantly after finishing third in LaLiga last season. The Spanish hosts have now lost three of their four European fixtures this term, following a league phase last year where they collected only a single point from eight matches.
Before Tuesday’s kick-off, a minute of silence was observed across all Champions League fixtures to honor Jesus de Miguel, the Tenerife player who died following a collision in a Spanish second-division game on Monday. The tribute also remembered the victims of a deadly train crash in Spain that claimed 69 lives the previous week.

Remaining European Fixtures for Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain holds maximum points in the current Champions League standings, separating themselves from competitors like Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Real Betis. The club has won the European Cup in each of the past two seasons despite missing automatic top-eight finishes in the league phase, though their current trajectory places them firmly on course to avoid an extra play-off round. Luis Enrique’s team will next face AS Roma and Aston Villa to close out their European schedule for the calendar year.
