Government Crackdown on Illegal Imports Boosts Hopes for Indonesian Textile Industry

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government’s firm steps to eradicate illegal imports, which were intensified by the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, received full support from the textile industry. Buisness actors are optimistic that this control will pave the way for the revival of local clothing businesses, including distros and independent brands for young people.

Executive Director of the Indonesian Textile Association (API),Danang girindrawardana assesses that the government’s efforts will have a positive domino effect on the national textile and garment industry ecosystem.

“Yes. Naturally imported thrifting products will be replaced by local products,” said danang to CNBC Indonesia,Sunday (9/11/2025).

According to him, the steps taken by Purbaya will not only suppress the rise of illegal imports, but will also reshape consumer preferences so that they love domestic products more.

“This will also change consumer behavior to prefer domestic products,” he said.
