Purdue Dominates Indiana in Historic Rivalry Rout

No. 7 Purdue delivered a resounding victory over rival Indiana on Friday night, defeating the Hoosiers 93-64. The Boilermakers’ performance marked their highest point total in the series since 1998 and their largest victory margin since 1969, emphatically ending a two-game losing streak against Indiana.

Trey Kaufman-Renn led Purdue with 20 points, while Braden Smith contributed 15 points and eight assists. Fletcher Loyer and Omer Mayer each added 18 points, with Loyer shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including 4-for-4 from three-point range. This game potentially marked the final home appearance for Purdue’s senior starters: Kaufman-Renn, Smith, and Loyer.

Boilermakers Take Control Early and Never Gaze Back

Purdue (22-5, 12-4 Big Ten) quickly established control with an 11-4 run, building a 26-14 lead. They extended their advantage to 46-29 before halftime. The Boilermakers continued their dominance in the second half, opening with baskets from Kaufman-Renn and Loyer to push the lead to 54-32. Indiana was unable to recover, and Purdue maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Indiana Struggles Against Purdue’s Size

Lamar Wilkerson led Indiana (17-10, 9-7) with 18 points, 18 of which came in the second half. Tayton Conerway added 12 points and seven assists, while Tucker DeVries scored 11. Though, Indiana’s offense struggled to find rhythm, and their post players faced challenges against Purdue’s size, compounded by foul trouble.

Looking Ahead

Indiana will return home to face Northwestern on Tuesday. Purdue will continue its three-game homestand against No. 15 Michigan State on Thursday.
