Quirino Lab: Elevating Ibero-American Animation Executive Production in Tenerife

Tenerife will host Quirino Lab, a new intensive training programme spearheaded by the Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards, from November 19th to 22nd. Designed specifically for executive animation producers, this seminar blends robust professional development wiht a forward-looking industry analysis, aiming to both advance individual careers and catalyze a higher standard of animated production across the region.Quirino Lab is a collaborative initiative between the Quirino Awards and the Cabildo de Tenerife, supported through Turismo de Tenerife and Tenerife Film Commission.

applications open on July 8th and will be accepted until August 5th. The program is geared towards executive animation producers who are legal residents or citizens of one of the 23 Ibero-American countries. Eligibility requires a proven track record of producing at least one animated series or feature film, or a minimum of three animated short films. Consideration will also be given to professionals demonstrating considerable experience in executive production roles, including service work and other animated content ventures.

Limited Enrollment

With a capacity of just 20 participants, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to those who fulfill the criteria and submit complete documentation by the deadline.The participation fee is €1,200, covering all seminar activities and meals. The program’s curriculum is structured around focused modules delivered over the first three days,lead by internationally recognized animation industry experts. Mentors will specialize in key areas relevant to executive production, drawing from diverse fields to provide a holistic perspective.

Topics will encompass in-depth analysis of current market trends – including novel distribution formats and evolving target audience identification – alongside the practical application of cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence in animation production. Further discussion will center on optimized organizational methodologies, efficient team management, and robust financial strategies for animation studios and producers. The seminar will culminate in a dedicated networking event connecting participants with Tenerife-based companies and additional social engagements.

Addressing Future Industry Needs

The development of Quirino Lab’s content, structure, and overall approach has been informed by the insights generated by the Quirino Awards’ Futures Laboratory, in partnership with the Ortega-Marañón Foundation. This collaborative effort identified key challenges and opportunities facing the animation sector through extensive research and a professional survey.A dedicated session of the Futures Laboratory, specifically focused on the role of executive production in animation, will be integrated into the program. The collective insights and strategic recommendations emerging from Quirino Lab will be compiled into a valuable guide aimed at strengthening the Ibero-American animation industry from its core leadership positions. This initiative reflects a commitment to not only training producers but also actively shaping the future of animation in the region.
