Ray D’Arcy Launches Daily Podcast Following RTÉ Exit

Former RTÉ Radio 1 broadcaster Ray D’Arcy is embarking on a new chapter with the launch of a daily podcast, Ray D’Arcy Daily, beginning Monday, March 9th. This move comes approximately five months after his departure from RTÉ in October 2025.

A Sudden Departure and Lingering Disappointment

D’Arcy’s exit from RTÉ was unexpected, and he has expressed his disappointment with how the situation was handled. He stated he was “hugely disappointed with RTÉ management” according to Goss.ie. Despite the circumstances, D’Arcy views the change as a positive step.

What to Expect from Ray D’Arcy Daily

The podcast will be released Monday through Friday and is described as “freshly baked,” recorded each weekday morning and available at 10:30 am. The Irish Times reports the show will feature D’Arcy’s perspectives alongside contributions from familiar faces, including his wife Jenny Kelly, Mairead Ronan, and Bernard O’Shea.

A Second Podcast in the Works: Being Human

In addition to Ray D’Arcy Daily, D’Arcy is also preparing to launch an interview series titled Being Human in the coming weeks. Initial guests for Being Human include Katriona O’Sullivan, Panti Bliss, Mary McAleese, Siobhán McSweeney, Prof Brendan Kelly, and Irish Times writer Róisín Ingle. The Irish Times

Reflections on His Time at RTÉ

D’Arcy has spoken candidly about his experience at RTÉ, suggesting he felt constrained and unable to fully express himself. He described a stifling atmosphere where he felt the need to constantly self-censor. He also noted a lack of engagement from RTÉ management with his show’s content, stating that some individuals appeared to be “listening, waiting for me to say something [controversial].” The Journal

RTÉ has refuted D’Arcy’s characterization of events, stating that changes to RTÉ Radio 1 were communicated to him and that his contract renewal was not guaranteed. The Journal

Looking Ahead

D’Arcy’s move to podcasting represents a new beginning for the broadcaster, offering him greater creative freedom and a direct connection with his audience. He has expressed excitement about the possibilities ahead and hinted at potential future projects, including a platform for other podcasters. The Irish Times
