Trail Blazers Sign Sidy Cissoko to Two-Year Deal, Waive Rayan Rupert
The Portland Trail Blazers have signed French guard Sidy Cissoko to a two-year standard NBA contract, according to reports from multiple sources. Blazers Edge and The Herald and News confirmed the signing on February 20, 2026.
Cissoko’s Rise with the Blazers
Cissoko, 21, has become a key rotation player for the Trail Blazers this season, particularly with the team facing numerous injuries. He was initially signed to a two-way contract on February 8, 2025, and has since demonstrated significant growth in his game. Sports Illustrated reports that in 50 games (24 starts) during the 2025-26 campaign, Cissoko is averaging 6.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 22.3 minutes per game – all career highs.
Originally drafted 44th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft, Cissoko has career averages of 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 84 games with both the Trail Blazers and the Spurs. He is currently tied for fourth in the NBA in offensive fouls drawn with 30.
Rayan Rupert Waived
To make room for Cissoko on the 15-man roster, the Trail Blazers waived guard Rayan Rupert. RealGM notes that Rupert appeared in 48 games this season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 12.0 minutes.
Rupert was drafted by the Blazers with the 43rd pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and played in 139 games for the team, averaging 3.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. He was in the final year of his rookie contract.
Looking Ahead
The Trail Blazers’ decision to sign Cissoko to a two-year deal reflects his positive impact on the team and their commitment to his development. Whereas Rupert’s departure is unfortunate, he is young and has the potential to uncover a role with another NBA team. Several teams, including the Celtics, Nets, Magic, Raptors, Nuggets, Warriors, Rockets, Clippers, Wolves, Pelicans, Kings, and Jazz, have open roster spots that could provide an opportunity for Rupert. Sports Illustrated suggests targeting rebuilding teams or those with limited playoff aspirations.
