Rebecca Ferguson Returns for Limited Role in ‘Dune: Part Three’
Rebecca Ferguson is set to reprise her role as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune: Part Three, despite her character having a minimal presence in the source material, Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. The actress revealed details about her involvement in a recent conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
A Brief Return to Arrakis
Ferguson explained that her participation in the third installment was initially unexpected. “I don’t even think she [Lady Jessica] was supposed to be in 3,” she stated. Villeneuve ultimately decided to include a single scene featuring her character, prompting Ferguson to return to the set. “And then Denis was like, ‘I need to have one scene,’ and I get one scene.”
Navigating a Changing Role
The actress described a sense of detachment even as filming, acknowledging the shift in her role within the larger narrative. “That was a weird feeling, walking onto a set that you know so well and knowing that you don’t have a part of it,” Ferguson shared. “There’s a lot of FOMO. And the acceptance of, ‘This is just what it is.’ You just have to serve [the story].”
Villeneuve’s Creative Vision
Ferguson praised Villeneuve’s directorial approach, describing him as “intelligent, creative. he’s a master.” She highlighted the collaborative dynamic he fosters, noting that he “works with people that he makes better, and they make him better. It’s a symbiosis.” The director is known for adapting the source material while likewise incorporating his own creative choices, “dipping in and out” of the established canon to achieve the best possible cinematic experience as reported by Cinemablend.
