Ireland West Airport Shatters Passenger Records
A record-breaking year has been celebrated at Ireland West Airport in County Mayo, with passenger numbers surpassing all previous highs. The airport welcomed 834,000 passengers in 2024, marking a 2% increase compared to the 817,000 passengers recorded in 2023.
Popularity Soars for Key European Destinations
The airport also witnessed a surge in passenger traffic for its popular European routes. Over 165,500 passengers traveled to and from destinations including Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Majorca, Malaga, Milan, Cologne, Lanzarote, and Tenerife, representing a notable 9% increase compared to 2023.
August Emerges as Busiest Month
August proved to be the busiest month of the year, with a remarkable 90,355 passengers passing through the airport. Sunday, August 18th, stands out as the busiest single day, recording over 3,600 passengers.
Continued Growth Expected
Reflecting on the successful year, an airport spokesperson shared a positive outlook for passenger growth in 2025. Arthur French, Chair of Ireland West Airport, expressed delight at the record-breaking passenger numbers and highlighted the sustained growth in demand for the airport’s routes and services both domestically and internationally.
“While the coming year will present many challenges, we will continue to work with our stakeholders and airline partners to grow our suite of routes from the airport whilst continuing to invest in our airport transformation and sustainability programmes,” stated French.
