Carrick Roundabout in Kilmeaden: Councillor Raises Concerns Over Safety

A local councillor has expressed growing concern over a number of accidents reported at the Carrick roundabout in Kilmeaden, County Waterford. Fianna Fáil Councillor John O’Leary brought the issue to the forefront at the recent Comeragh district meeting of Waterford City and County Council.

Councillor O’Leary, who represents Kilmeaden, stated that he has repeatedly raised concerns about the roundabout’s safety, but hasn’t seen any action taken to address the problem. “The only thing I’m finding is that there’s nothing being done. I don’t know who’s responsible, but it’s a very unsatisfactory position for people using that roundabout,” he said.

He added that it’s “a pity” that residents have told him they are actively avoiding the roundabout due to safety concerns.

The councillor’s concerns are heightened by a recent incident in August, where a section of the N25 had to be closed following a two-car collision at the roundabout.

This incident highlights the urgent need for a thorough review of the roundabout’s design and safety measures. The safety of motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians should be paramount.
