A Massive Mobilization for National Day
For Belgium’s National Day on July 21, the Belgian Red Cross (Croix-Rouge de Belgique) has mobilized 260 rescue workers to staff 12 temporary medical posts across Brussels. The operation is a logistical undertaking designed to protect the hundreds of thousands of spectators expected to fill the capital’s streets. To ensure rapid emergency response, the agency has deployed six standby ambulances, while 18 specialized vehicles will integrate directly into the military parade.
Strategic Coverage of Brussels Landmarks
The Red Cross has structured its deployment to match the flow of the day’s events. According to the organization, four medical stations will operate continuously throughout the day at key locations: Place Royale, Place Poelaert, Parc de Bruxelles, and the Sablon.
During the military parade, an additional four stations will open to provide coverage at the Colonne du Congrès, the Corps de garde near the Royal Palace, Rue de Louvain, and Rue des Colonies. As crowds shift toward the evening celebration, the Red Cross will redeploy its resources to the Parc du Cinquantenaire, where four medical posts will remain operational until the conclusion of the fireworks display.
The Red Cross Village at Rue de la Régence
Beyond emergency care, the organization is utilizing the holiday as a platform for public health education. A “Red Cross Village” located on Rue de la Régence, opposite the Conservatory, serves as an interactive hub for the mission. Visitors are invited to tour a Red Cross ambulance to understand the equipment used in emergency response or observe live rescue demonstrations performed by volunteers.
The village also offers educational quizzes focused on mental health awareness and plasma donation, alongside opportunities for the public to inquire about active volunteer roles and career paths within the organization.
Bolstering Blood Supplies During Summer
The Red Cross has integrated blood donation directly into the festivities to address seasonal needs. Two dedicated mobile collection vehicles will be stationed at the village to facilitate blood donations from the public, supporting the organization’s efforts to maintain blood supplies ahead of the summer season.

The scale of this year’s deployment underscores the Red Cross’s capacity to manage medical logistics for large-scale public gatherings.
