Responding to Criticism
PT Pertamina (Persero) has directly addressed recent comments questioning the pace of oil refinery development within the company. This response came from pertamina’s Director of Business Change and Sustainability, Agung Wicaksono, following remarks made by Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, which where perceived as critical of Pertamina’s efforts.
Balikpapan RDMP: A Key Project
agung wicaksono emphasized that Pertamina is actively engaged in critically important refinery projects, specifically highlighting the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP). This project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in November 2025.
“Each of us has challenges,we have homework starting from transformation, changing the face of gas stations,to increasing production, building refineries, which the Minister of Finance said,we are too lazy. if we are lazy, we can’t possibly get hot to build (the refinery),”
said Agung at CEO Connect 2025, held at Kompas Tower on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Addressing the “Laziness” Claim
Wicaksono firmly refuted the suggestion of inaction, stating that the ongoing refinery construction demonstrates a clear commitment to improving Indonesia’s refining capacity. He pointed to the complexities involved in such large-scale projects, acknowledging the challenges faced by the company while simultaneously defending its dedication to progress.
Further Developments
The statement comes amidst broader discussions about Indonesia’s energy independence and the need to reduce reliance on imported fuels. The triumphant completion of the Balikpapan RDMP is considered a crucial step towards achieving these goals.
