Renault Bolsters Premium Segment with Tech Upgrades and Hybrid Powertrains

Renault is reinforcing its commitment to the upper C and D segments, with high-level trims – particularly Esprit Alpine and Atelier Alpine – accounting for a significant majority of sales. Recent updates to the Austral, Espace and Rafale models include technological enhancements, new equipment, and a continued focus on hybrid powertrains, attracting customers previously loyal to premium brands.

Demand for High-End Versions

Renault reports strong demand for its premium trims. In the Baltic states, 92% of Renault Rafale sales are for the Esprit Alpine and Atelier Alpine packages. The Austral sees 43% of sales in the Esprit Alpine package, while the Espace achieves even higher figures with 76% of sales in the Esprit Alpine and Iconic trims.

Technological Improvements for Enhanced User Experience

Renault is integrating several new technologies across its premium models, set to roll out in March 2026. These include:

Qi2 Wireless Charging

Renault is among the first automakers to offer Qi2 (MagSafe compatible) wireless charging. This technology provides faster charging – up to 50% in one hour – and minimizes overheating. The system is likewise compatible with older smartphones using a magnetic phone cover or ring.

New Connectivity Suite

A new connectivity suite powered by Airnity will be available, featuring a Secure Internet Kit integrated into the infotainment system. This allows users to download and run apps via OpenR without relying on smartphone connectivity. The service includes a 2 GB monthly data allowance for three years.

Google Gemini Integration

Google Assistant will be replaced by Google’s more advanced artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini. Gemini offers a more conversational and intelligent user experience, allowing for more complex tasks and seamless language switching.

Improved Driver Attention Monitoring

The driver attention monitoring system, utilizing the A-pillar camera, now includes fatigue and discomfort detection. If a problem is detected, the vehicle will safely come to a stop with hazard lights activated.

Smart Mode Implementation

Top-of-the-line models will replace MySense mode with Smart mode. This intelligent system automatically switches between Eco, Comfort, and Sport driving modes based on the driver’s style, optimizing fuel efficiency, and performance.

Powertrain Options and Efficiency

All three models – Austral, Espace, and Rafale – are available with the E-Tech 200 hp hybrid engine, offering a combined fuel efficiency of approximately 4.7-4.8 l/100 km and a range of up to 1,100 km on a full tank. The Rafale also offers a high-performance E-Tech 4×4 300 hp plug-in hybrid option, developed by Alpine engineers, with a 22 kWh battery enabling all-electric driving.

Design and Aesthetics

The Austral and Espace ranges now feature a new Slate Blue satin body color. The Rafale receives a new interior upholstery option combining black textile and grain-finished TEP.
