René van der Gijp Back on ‘Vandaag Inside’, Reflects on Ibiza New Year’s and Upcoming Schedule Changes
Rene van der Gijp, beloved Dutch football pundit and star of the hit talk show Vandaag Inside, is ready to return to the screen next Monday. After a three-week break that included New Year’s festivities, Van der Gijp is back with a refreshed perspective, humorously recounting his less-than-stellar New Year’s Eve experience in Ibiza.
“It wasn’t quite what I expected,” laughed Van der Gijp. “They celebrate Christmas until January 5th but New Year’s Eve felt like a bit of an afterthought. By 12:10, everyone was packing up and heading home.”
Despite the underwhelming holiday, Van der Gijp remains enthusiastic about returning to work. He highlights the camaraderie he enjoys with his fellow panelists: "Seeing the people I sit at the table with is what I enjoy most. We don’t hang out outside the show, but it’s nice to reconnect.”
One notable change viewers can expect is Van der Gijp taking Wednesdays off. Albert Verlinde will step in as his replacement, a decision Van der Gijp supports: "He’s a good guy, and everyone tells me he knows how to make good TV."
Van der Gijp’s co-hosts, Wilfred Genee and Johan Derksen, seem less likely to embrace a lighter schedule. Van der Gijp playfully remarked, “Wilfred would’ve loved to host the 6 p.m. news as well. It’s a lot. I don’t know how Johan manages to drive to Hilversum, do the show, and hop back in his car 10 seconds after we finish. It’s impressive.”
He also addresses recent rumors surrounding his marriage to Minouche. Simply stating "It’s fine. Really, it’s fine. Things will work out. I’m not worried about it," Van der Gijp addresses the speculation head-on with reassuring confidence.
As Vandaag Inside gears up for Van der Gijp’s return, fans can anticipate continued insightful discussions, acerbic wit, and his signature blend of football commentary and everyday observations.
