Reporting System Details

The “Illegal Sports Toto Reporting Center” operates a system where individuals can receive rewards for reporting operators, users, and promoters of illegal sports gambling sites. Reports can be submitted through the center’s website or via phone at 1899-1119 . To file a report online, users must verify their identity before submitting details such as the site address (URL), access information (ID, password, referrer, etc.), and supporting evidence .

Reward Structure

The reward system is tiered based on the severity and impact of the reported information:

  • Illegal Sports Gambling Operation: Up to 200 million won (approximately $150,000 USD) .
  • Match Manipulation: Up to 50 million won (approximately $37,500 USD) for reporting activities related to match-fixing in sports promotion voting rights.
  • Other Illegal Activities: Up to 15 million won (approximately $11,250 USD) for reporting activities such as illegal sports gambling apply, promotion, system design, broadcasting/arrangement, or provision of information on sports games.
  • Individual Reports: Rewards of 15,000 won (approximately $11 USD) per case, with a maximum of 1.5 million won (approximately $1,125 USD) per person per month, are awarded based on deliberation by the Korea Communications Commission .
  • Bank Account Reporting: A reward of 100,000 won (approximately $75 USD) is granted for each verified bank account linked to illegal gambling sites, with no reward limit .

Rewards are typically delivered via mobile phone text message (LMS), requiring reporters to accurately provide their registered mobile number.

Government Stance and Penalties

Korea Sports Leisure emphasizes its commitment to reducing the damage caused by illegal sports gambling and fostering a healthy sports culture. Under the National Sports Promotion Act, individuals found operating illegal gambling activities may face up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to 70 million won. Users can face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won .
