Rhea Chakraborty on freezing her eggs and motherhood

becoming a mother is a important life event, often filled with both joy and uncertainty. If you aren’t quite ready for motherhood, egg freezing offers a way to preserve your options. it’s important to remember, though, that it’s both an emotionally and financially demanding process.

Recently, actor and chat-show host Rhea Chakraborty publicly discussed considering egg freezing as a path toward future motherhood.

During a conversation with her friend, actor Huma Qureshi, on her podcast, Rhea shared, “I am 33, and I recently visited a gynaecologist about egg freezing. I’m seriously thinking about doing it.”

Rhea also touched on the pressures women face, saying,”It’s a strange situation. Your body tells you it’s time to have children, but your mind reminds you that you already have important commitments – your career, your business – that need nurturing.”

Understanding Egg Freezing

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a fertility preservation method. It allows women to store their unfertilized eggs for potential future use. The process typically begins with hormone injections to stimulate egg production. these eggs are then retrieved and frozen, ready to be thawed and fertilized with sperm via IVF when a woman decides she’s ready to try to conceive.

According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the success rates of egg freezing are improving, but depend on factors like the woman’s age at the time of freezing and the quality of the eggs.

Why are more women choosing to freeze their eggs?

Several factors contribute to the increasing popularity of egg freezing. Many women are delaying motherhood to focus on their education, careers, or personal goals. Freezing eggs provides a sense of control and security, allowing them to possibly have children later in life without worrying about age-related fertility decline. It’s also becoming more accessible as the technology improves and more fertility clinics offer the service.

However, it’s crucial to have realistic expectations. Egg freezing isn’t a guaranteed path to pregnancy, and it can be expensive. It’s best to discuss the process thoroughly with a fertility specialist to understand the potential benefits and risks.
