Indonesia and Denmark Strengthen Intellectual Property Cooperation

Indonesia and Denmark are deepening their commitment to protecting intellectual property (IP) rights, with a recent meeting in Jakarta highlighting their ongoing collaboration and outlining future plans. Representatives from the Indonesian Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO) met to review existing initiatives and chart a course for greater cooperation in the coming years.

Since September 2024, the two nations have been actively working together to bolster Indonesia’s IP framework. This has included training programs for law enforcement officials on IP-related matters, capacity-building initiatives for IP examiners, and workshops focused on maximizing the utilization and commercialization of intellectual property.

“This collaboration isn’t just vital for the DJKI, but for all stakeholders involved in intellectual property in Indonesia,” emphasized Yasmon, DJKI’s director of cooperation, empowerment, and education, during the meeting.

Looking ahead, Yasmon outlined three key proposals for 2025. These include further developing human resources dedicated to IP examiners, particularly those specializing in patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.

Another priority is knowledge sharing and discussions surrounding Indonesia’s National Intellectual Property Strategy, a crucial document that Yasmon’s team is tasked with drafting.

Finally, Yasmon stressed the importance of tackling digital piracy, a growing threat to IP rights globally. To address this, she proposed digital piracy training for members of Indonesia’s intellectual property operations task force.

Through this ongoing partnership, Indonesia aims to strengthen its IP system, equipping it to effectively navigate the complexities of the global marketplace and safeguard the rights of creators and innovators.
