Glen Dimplex Implements Board Shake-up with New Leadership and Expert Appointment
Electrical goods manufacturer Glen Dimplex is undergoing a significant restructuring of its supervisory board, bringing in new leadership and expert experience.
Key Changes Announced
The company announced the appointment of former Bank of Ireland chief executive Richie Boucher to its supervisory board. Simultaneously, group founder Martin Naughton has been named chairman emeritus, while his son, Glen Dimplex executive chairman Fergal Naughton, will now chair the supervisory board.
“The appointment of my father to the emeritus role is an acknowledgment of his remarkable impact and his ongoing commitment to supporting the board, and indeed the entire group,” said Fergal Naughton.
Alongside Mr. Boucher, group chief executive Fergal Leamy will also join the board. Mr. Boucher, known for his leadership at CRH, the building materials giant, brings a wealth of “exceptional array of experience and wisdom” to the role.
This shake-up will also see the departure of long-time non-executive director Joe Menendex, who will step down at the end of the current year. Mr. Naughton expressed sincere gratitude for Mr. Menendex’s “incredible support” over the past nine years, highlighting his expertise in the French market.
Glen Dimplex Operations Update
The Naughton family-owned company, which recently reported a near three-fold rise in pre-tax profits at its main Irish arm in 2023, has been in the process of overhauling its operations in Ireland. This includes:
*
Moving production of gas and electrical fire products to a partner business in China;
*
Consolidating its two facilities in Dunleer, Co Louth, into one with a €15 million investment;
*
Seeking around 60 redundancies at the Dunleer sites, where workers have accepted a revised redundancy offer.
These changes have also led to the closure of Glen Dimplex’s site in Portadown, prompting workers represented by trade union Unite to vote in favor of industrial action.
