North Korea Warns Japan: Nuclear Weapons Must Be Prevented

Pyongyang – North Korea (DPRK) insists Japan’s pursuit of nuclear weapons “must be prevented at all costs.” This strong statement comes after a Tokyo official reportedly suggested the country shoudl consider acquiring atomic weapons.

AFP reports that Pyongyang reacted swiftly to comments made by an unnamed official in the Japanese Prime Minister’s office.Kyodo News quoted the official on Thursday stating, “I think we should have nuclear weapons.”

The official, involved in shaping Japan’s security policy, reportedly added, “we can only rely on ourselves” to justify the need for nuclear capabilities. this sentiment clearly sparked a harsh response from North Korea, already a nuclear power.
