The winter service work is “one of the typical jobs that happens in the background,” said Mayor Nico Klose (self-reliant), remembering that as mayor of Neverin he himself helped out wiht winter service a few years ago. The city’s own property management company and various regional companies are involved in the winter service.”We are well prepared,” explained the mayor.

In Neubrandenburg, everything is prepared for the new winter service season.”Vehicles, equipment and grit are available to keep streets and sidewalks safe for traffic as quickly as possible in snow and ice,” the city announces.

Neubrandenburg Prepares for Winter: Road Clearing, resident Responsibilities, and Extended Winter Service season

Neubrandenburg is prepared for the winter season, with a comprehensive winter service plan in place to ensure safe roads and pedestrian pathways. The city’s efforts prioritize critical infrastructure like hospital access, and extend beyond simply gritting and plowing to include manual clearing of stairs and diligent maintenance of equipment. Residents also have a role to play, with specific responsibilities for clearing sidewalks and portions of roads, details of which can be found on the city’s Geodata portal. The official winter service season currently runs until March 31, 2026, but may be extended depending on weather conditions.

Proactive Winter Service Operations

The city of Neubrandenburg aims to have rush hour traffic disruptions minimized by completing initial winter service operations by 6 a.m. A fleet of 20 vehicles is deployed across the city, anticipating up to 25 winter service missions throughout the season.Rene Diederich, head of the roads and tracks department at the property management company, highlighted the importance of routine checks, including litter and sand box maintenance, as part of the readiness.

Beyond vehicle-based clearing, manual labor is a crucial component of the winter service. Workers are responsible for ensuring accessibility on stairs and other pedestrian areas. The city prioritizes access to essential services, such as the hospital, when deploying resources.

Resident Responsibilities for Snow and ice Removal

Neubrandenburg emphasizes that residents share responsibility for maintaining safe conditions. Depending on the location,residents are required to clear sidewalks and,in some cases,portions of the roadway. The city’s Geodata portal clearly indicates areas where resident responsibility applies.

The city has established specific timeframes for snow and ice removal:

* Weekdays: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
* weekends & Public Holidays: 8 a.m.to 6 p.m.

Regional Coordination and Preparedness

Neubrandenburg’s winter service efforts are coordinated with surrounding district road maintenance offices in neustrelitz, Altentreptow, and Demmin, all within the Mecklenburg Lake District. These offices have also completed preparations, including:

* Equipment Checks: Thorough inspection and testing of all clearing and spreading equipment.According to a statement from the mecklenburg Lake District, the technology is in good working order, with no major issues identified.
* Tour Plan Review: Verification of planned routes for efficient and effective snow removal.
* Safety Training: Employee briefings on occupational safety procedures related to winter service operations.

Nils Henke, press spokesman for the Mecklenburg Lake District, confidently stated, “Winter can come,” reflecting the region’s readiness.
