The bullfighter Andres Roca Reywho plans to fight on August 10 in Palma, remains under observation in a hospital in Seville that has not yet come to light under the supervision of Octavio Mulet, chief surgeon of the Plaza de la Real Maestranza.
The right-hander from Lima had suffered a gored right calf when he performed this same Saturday in the first bullfight on foot of the summer season in the Santa Maria Port.
The mishap occurred when he was trying to switch to his first bull, a copy of Nunez del Cuvillo, in a crutch changed from behind. The fall on the albero, hitting the neck, was overwhelming. When the bullfighter got up, the stream of blood running down his calf was evident. Nonetheless was able to continue the job and to kill the animal by cutting off its ear with a strong request for a second trophy that the box denied.
Roca entered the infirmary of the square where he underwent surgery. The medical report signed by Dr. Carabot reported an “18-centimetre bull horn wound with an ascending trajectory in the middle third of the right leg, affecting the calf region.”
Contrary to the advice of the doctors, and with the drains on, Roca returned to dressing as a bullfighter after being intervened to kill the second of his batch, who jumped in sixth place after his turn was run.
