From Football to 1,000 NHL Games: Roman Josi‘s Journey
Nashville Predators defenseman roman Josi is set to reach a remarkable milestone – his 1,000th NHL game. As he prepares to face the Ottawa Senators this Thursday, his father, Peter Josi, shared a surprising detail about his son’s early sporting aspirations.
Initially, young Roman briefly traded the ice for the football field. It was Yannick’s continued involvement in hockey that ultimately drew Roman back to the sport.
“I was a footballer, so I didn’t dislike the move at the time,” Peter Josi recounted in a recent interview with “Berner Zeitung.” “But of course, it didn’t matter what he played. The children should decide for themselves.”
Peter Josi noted his son’s talent became evident around age ten, with coaches consistently placing him at a higher level. By seventeen, Roman’s potential was clear, attracting attention from agents, including those in North america.
“Suddenly ther was a hype and the agents, including those in North America, were trying to get him,” Peter Josi remembers. He expressed his pride and amazement at his son’s longevity and success, stating, “This number shows, on the one hand, what he has achieved – you know what it takes. And on the other hand, how quickly time flies. He has been in north America for 15 years. I am happy that he is still healthy.”
