RTÉ Announces Fact-Checking Push With New Managing Editor Role

The Irish national broadcaster, RTÉ, is bolstering its commitment to combating disinformation with a newly announced role: Managing Editor for Fact-Checking and Story Verification.

The role, with a salary range of €112,000 to €145,000 per year, is a key priority for RTÉ’s News and Current Affairs division. The station emphasizes that challenging disinformation is a strategic objective.

Combating Misinformation

According to the job advertisement, the new Managing Editor will focus on:

  • Uncovering disinformation trends
  • Creating accurate content to debunk misinformation and fake news

RTÉ highlights the importance of integrating digital content into its news and current affairs output and integrating these divisions more effectively.

Leading Investigative Team

The role also includes responsibility for the RTÉ Investigations unit and supervision of special events. This highlights the continued importance of investigative journalism within RTÉ.

Applications for this position are currently only open to internal candidates. The closing date is January 17th.

Departure of Former Managing Editor

This new role follows the recent departure of long-standing managing editor, Mr. Maguire, who stepped down last October.
