Driver in Custody for Longer After Collision with Runner in ‘s-Gravenzande
The 46-year-old man arrested in connection with the serious injury of a 23-year-old runner in ‘s-Gravenzande will remain in custody for at least two more weeks, according to reports from Dutch news outlets.
Details of the Incident
On Monday, February 16th, the 23-year-old, identified as Lisa, was struck by a red Mini Cooper while running on the Nieuwelaan in ‘s-Gravenzande. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene, leaving Lisa with severe injuries.
Lisa sustained five broken ribs, fractures in four vertebrae, and a bruised lung, her father, Jacco, reported to Rijnmond. She also required stitches for a leg wound.
Investigation and Arrest
Police quickly located the red Mini Cooper and took it into custody on Wednesday. The driver was apprehended early Thursday morning. Omroep West reports the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) suspects the man of causing an accident resulting in serious bodily harm and leaving the victim helpless.
The suspect, a resident of ‘s-Gravenzande, is currently being held while the investigation continues. Police are still seeking witnesses and any available camera footage from the area to reconstruct the events of the evening. Rodi.nl reported the arrest.
Ongoing Concerns
Lisa remains hospitalized and faces a long recovery period with limited mobility. Her father had previously appealed to the driver to come forward. NOS confirms the suspect is now in custody.
