Mia Starr Reflects on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Exit and a Possible Psychic Gift
Mia Starr, a fan-favorite contestant from Season 18 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is opening up about her elimination and a series of uncanny premonitions she experienced throughout the competition. Starr’s journey ended after a lip sync against Kenya Pleaser following a challenging performance in the “Snatch Game of Love Island,” but not before she seemingly predicted the twist to the iconic game and her own fate.
Predicting the Twist and Her Own Elimination
Starr claims she had a dream foretelling the “Snatch Game of Love Island” format change. “I woke up, and I told the girls, ‘Listen, I have a feeling that it’s gonna be Snatch Game of Love Island,’” she told Gold Derby. “They were like, ‘You’re lying. Shut up.’” The show did, in fact, swap the traditional “Snatch Game,” where queens impersonate celebrities in a Match Game-style format, for a spin on the popular dating show Love Island.
Her premonitions didn’t stop there. Starr also felt she would be eliminated despite a strong track record and a recent win in a talent show. “Even though my track record was better, I didn’t notice Kenya going anywhere,” she explained. “She’s such a big personality, and she deserves to stay because she’s a great performer as well.” Starr even predicted her own departure, stating she felt RuPaul would send her home.
A Disastrous “Snatch Game” as Bloody Mary
Starr’s elimination came after a less-than-stellar performance as the urban legend Bloody Mary. She admitted to having “zero jokes” prepared and focusing primarily on the makeup. “I was like, ‘OK, how are we going to do this makeup?’ So my energy was focused on, ‘How am I going to look like a scary, spooky, dead bitch?’” Starr explained to Gold Derby.
Despite the negative reception, Starr plans to reclaim the character. “Oh yes! I desire to see how the episode looks before I write a song, but I’m gonna release a song called ‘Bloody Mary’ to switch the narrative. Although I know I’m gonna be roasted for the rest of my life for this, I also want to take the piss out of it. For Halloween especially, she’s definitely coming. Bloody Mary is probably gonna make me more money than Mia has.”
Lip Sync and Support from Her Drag Family
Following the “Snatch Game,” Starr found herself in a lip sync against Kenya Pleaser to “Head Over Heels” by The Go-Go’s. While she was surprised by the positive feedback on her performance, she ultimately sashayed away. “Honestly, speaking to everybody [for press], that has been such a common response,” she said. “[It] makes me feel so good, even though I love my sister Kenya. I love her down, but that makes me feel really good — the fact that I put up a good fight.”
Starr entered the competition with fellow drag queens Juicy Love Dion and Athena Dion, members of her drag family. “I was so excited to have a piece of home with me. I felt like we’re gonna have each other’s backs. I know this is a competition, but we’re family no matter what. I just felt safe, like, ‘I’m not here by myself.’”
Looking Ahead
Starr expressed regret about not dancing more during the lip sync and vowed to return to RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars for a chance at redemption with Bloody Mary. She also noted that Rihanna’s team had reached out with support, and she hopes to collaborate with Shakira in the future, as Shakira expressed interest in seeing her perform before the show began.
