Russell Brand faces prison after a jury at Southwark Crown Court found him guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, The Independent reported.
The 51-year-old actor and stand-up comic was remanded in custody following the Thursday verdict. Judge Mr Justice Bennathan warned the defendant that his convictions carry a custodial sentence of some length ahead of his sentencing hearing scheduled for Monday.
Archival footage featuring the comedian has reappeared across social media platforms following the verdict. One resurfaced clip from a 2010 GMTV interview captures Brand arriving at a Vanity Fair Oscar Party alongside his then-wife Katy Perry.
During the interview, Perry interrupted Brand to state, “You didn’t watch it!” When the interviewer later asked Perry how she managed her husband, she replied that “He’s actually hilarious,” before Brand pulled her away from the cameras.
A separate clip from a 2007 episode of Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year also drew renewed scrutiny. The recording shows Brand and co-star Noel Fielding making remarks about rape during an appearance alongside singer Lily Allen, who was 21 at the time and the only woman on the panel.
Allen discussed the uncomfortable experience in a 2023 interview with Grazia, noting that she laughed along with the comments because “it was the culture.” Fielding has not been accused of any wrongdoing and had no involvement in Brand’s trial.

Katy Perry, who was married to Brand from October 2010 to December 2011, has not issued a public statement regarding the court’s verdict. However, the Mail on Sunday reported that the singer is in active discussions to detail her marriage through an autobiography and a documentary series.
A source stated that Perry received multiple offers over the years but declined to consider them until the legal proceedings concluded, describing the marriage as a very dark period in her life.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that Brand remains under investigation for two additional alleged rapes, including an accusation involving a 16-year-old schoolgirl. Police officials have issued warnings that further victims could still come forward as the investigations continue.
