Rwanda Challenger Hosts Tennis Initiation, Concert, and Player Exchange

Kigali, Rwanda – The Rwanda Challenger is set to host a special event on March 11th at the French Institute, offering a diverse program including a tennis initiation session, a player exchange, and a live concert featuring Rwandan artists. The event aims to engage the local community and provide insights into the world of professional tennis.

Tennis Initiation Session

At 3:00 PM, a tennis initiation session will be open to all ages and skill levels. The session will be led by the tournament team and representatives from the Rwanda Tennis Federation, providing a fun and friendly introduction to the basics of the sport.

Player Exchange

From 5:30 PM, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a discussion with Arzel Mevellec, the Director of the Rwanda Challenger, alongside professional players César Bouchelaghem of France and Guy Orly Iradukunda of Rwanda. This exchange will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the competition and the players’ journeys.

Live Concert and DJ Set

The event will conclude with a live concert and DJ set starting at 7:00 PM. Project Karongi, a collective known for blending poetic storytelling with energetic stage performances, will deliver a contemporary Rwandan music experience. Ish Kevin, a prominent figure in the Trappish music movement, will also perform, showcasing his unique blend of trap, identity, and international ambition. The evening will be rounded off with a DJ set by Max Tassan, featuring Afro-electronic, organic house, and deep techno sounds.

Rwanda’s Growing Role in Tennis

The Rwanda Challenger reflects the increasing interest in developing tennis within Africa. Rwanda is the seventh African country to host an ATP Challenger Tour event, signaling a positive step towards bringing more high-level tennis to the Central African region as highlighted by the ATP Tour. Arzel Mevellec, tournament director, has emphasized Rwanda’s role in pioneering professional tennis in this part of the world .

The event is supported by the Rwanda Tennis Federation and aims to foster a greater appreciation for tennis within the Rwandan community.
