RYANAIR ANNOUNCES RECORD GROWTH FOR ABRUZZO

Ryanair Announces 80% Growth for Abruzzo Airport

ryanair, Europe and Italy’s number one airline, today (Friday, November 28th) announced record operations for winter 2025 and summer 2026 at Abruzzo International airport. This includes basing 2 aircraft year-round – a first for the winter season – representing a $200 million investment in the region. This investment will bring over 1.3 million passengers per year (+80% growth as the municipal surcharge was abolished) to Pescara, demonstrating how president Marsilio’s removal of the surcharge continues to stimulate growth, connectivity, tourism, and economic development in Abruzzo.

Ryanair’s record operations for winter 2025 and summer 2026 in Pescara include:

  • 2 based aircraft – $200 million investment
  • Winter ’25: 14 routes, 8 new: Cagliari, Milan Malpensa, Kaunas, Krakow, Trapani-Marsala, Turin, Valencia and Wroclaw, plus the restored route to/from Milan Bergamo
  • Summer ’26: 21 routes, 1 new from/to Tirana, plus the restored route from/to Milan Bergamo
  • Over 1.3 million passengers per year (+80% vs 2024)
  • Support for over 1,000 jobs in Abruzzo, including over 60 well-paid pilots and cabin crew

Abruzzo International Airport and the Abruzzo Region are now more competitive and attractive for investment thanks to President Marsilio’s decision to abolish the municipal surtax. Abruzzo was the third Italian region to eliminate this tax, and Ryanair has responded by adding a new aircraft (an additional $100 million investment), recording +80% traffic growth, and supporting over 1,000 jobs. This offers greater year-round connectivity at the lowest prices in Europe for Abruzzo citizens. Though, if the rest of Italy wants to remain competitive with European countries like Albania, Sweden, and Slovakia – which are actively reducing access costs – the Italian Government must abolish the municipal surcharge at all Italian airports to stimulate traffic, tourism, and jobs.
