Jets Trade Stanley and Schenn to Sabres Ahead of Deadline
The Winnipeg Jets are reportedly finalizing a trade that will send defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn to the Buffalo Sabres, according to multiple reports. Yahoo Sports and NHL on TNT both reported the deal is in progress as of Friday, March 6, 2026.
Schenn’s Journey and Role with the Sabres
For Luke Schenn, this marks his second consecutive trade deadline move. He was acquired by the Jets last season from the Pittsburgh Penguins, having initially been traded to Pittsburgh from the Nashville Predators. Schenn is in the final year of a three-year, $8.25 million contract signed with Nashville in 2023.
Despite his experience, Schenn has struggled to find consistent footing with the Jets, posting a -11 rating in 46 games this season. He averages 13:44 of ice time and has been a healthy scratch at times. However, he leads the Jets with 139 hits, a stat that could be valuable to the Sabres.
The Sabres are looking for right-shot depth on defense and Schenn provides that, although his impact on the regular lineup remains to be seen.
Stanley’s Potential in Buffalo
Logan Stanley, a 6-foot-7 defenseman, is expected to be a regular contributor for the Sabres. Buffalo has been seeking stability on their third defensive pairing, and Stanley could fill that role. He was drafted 18th overall in 2016 and is a pending unrestricted free agent.
Stanley is having a career year with nine goals and 12 assists in 59 games, totaling 21 points. Inside the Rink This production has significantly boosted his value, and he’s now seventh in Jets scoring among all players.
Jets Roster Moves and Trade Deadline
Prior to the reported trade, both Schenn and Stanley were scratched from the Jets lineup against the Tampa Bay Lightning for “roster management reasons.” Isaak Phillips was recalled from the Manitoba Moose, and Ville Heinola entered the lineup. This move fueled speculation about potential trades as the Friday trade deadline approaches.
The Jets have been active in trade discussions, recently dealing former defenseman Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars.
