Sabrina Carpenter Supports LGBTQ+ Community at VMAs

Sabrina Carpenter demonstrated her support for the LGBTQ+ community during her performance of “Tears” from the Man’s Best Friend album at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. The performance began with carpenter emerging from a manhole alongside dancers including Rupaul’s Drag Race stars Symone, Willam, Denali, Laganja Estranja, and Lexi Love, as well as ballroom star Honey Balenciaga.

As Carpenter sang the line, “I get wet at the thought of you…”, tears dripped from the ceiling, soaking her. Dancers, including two muscular performers dressed as police officers, carried protest signs advocating for “Protect Trans Rights,” “Support Drag,” and “Love Each Other.” Carpenter delivered this bold, political statement with her signature style.

Carpenter received eight VMA nominations this year, including Video of the Year and Best Pop for “Manchild,” Best Pop Artist, and Best Album for Short n’ Sweet. “manchild” also competes for technical awards, including Best Direction and Best Cinematography.
