SaLü Thermal Spa Bans Cameras in Sauna Areas Following Privacy Concerns
Lüneburg, Germany – February 21, 2026 – The SaLü thermal spa in Lüneburg is implementing a ban on photo-capable devices in its sauna areas, “Siederei” and “Kleine Sauna,” effective Monday, February 23rd. This decision comes in response to increasing reports of surreptitious photography and growing privacy concerns among sauna guests, particularly women.
The ban encompasses smartphones, cameras integrated into glasses, smartwatches with camera functionality, and any other device capable of capturing photos or videos. Valuables compartments will be available for secure storage of these devices while guests enjoy the sauna.
Protecting Privacy and Promoting Relaxation
“We want to protect the privacy of our sauna guests even better and create a quiet place to switch off, because cell phone breaks also help with relaxation,” stated Salü managing director Dirk Günther. He also highlighted a fresh initiative to encourage relaxation: “If you would like to read something during the rest periods between sauna sessions, you will find books to borrow from the new hiking book shelf in the fireplace room, which you can also take home.”
Limited Device Leverage Permitted in Select Areas
While the ban applies to the sauna areas, smartphone use will remain permitted in the anteroom of the Siederei with the camera lens taped over. The use of cameras is also permitted in the water district and sports pool. Free camera stickers will continue to be available throughout the SaLü facility for those wishing to cover their device lenses.
SaLü Offers Diverse Wellness Experiences
The SaLü complex offers a range of wellness facilities, including seven saunas and a steam bath, as well as aqua-fitness classes and a sports pool [2]. The spa also features a saltwater wave pool and water slides [3]. The Siederei and Wasserviertel (Pool) were undergoing annual maintenance from June 16-27, 2025 [2].
