Washington Man Arrested in San Jose Super Bowl Shooting
San Jose, CA – A man from Federal Way, Washington, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that injured six people in downtown San Jose following Super Bowl LX on February 8, 2026. The suspect, 45-year-old Tyrone Asphy, was visiting San Jose for the Super Bowl, which pitted the Seattle Seahawks against the Modern England Patriots.
Details of the Shooting
According to San Jose Police Department (SJPD) reports, the shooting occurred around 10:50 p.m. Near the intersection of Santa Clara and Market streets, several miles from Levi’s Stadium CBS News. The incident stemmed from an altercation between two groups. Asphy allegedly produced a firearm and shot six adult victims.
Four victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment, one self-transported, and one received treatment at the scene. All injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening ABC7 News.
Investigation and Arrest
San Jose police utilized automated license plate reader technology to identify the vehicle used by the suspect to flee the scene ABC7 News. Detectives obtained arrest and search warrants and tracked Asphy back to his home in Federal Way, Washington.
With assistance from the FBI and Washington state authorities, Asphy was arrested on Thursday, March 11, 2026, by the Valley SWAT Team in Washington and the FBI CBS News. He was booked into King County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Santa Clara County.
During a search of Asphy’s home, detectives recovered the firearm used in the shooting SJPD News.

San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph stated, “On a day that should have been a celebration, a dangerous suspect from out of state chose to bring violence into downtown San José and attempted to take multiple lives.
