Pedro Sánchez arrived through the main door. Alberto Núñez Feijóo went without being seen arriving. Cordial handshake more aware of the cameras than each other. The first meeting in almost 11 months between the leaders of PSOE and PP is celebrated without expectations of agreements, but the socialist leader comes with a subject that worries and obsesses in his formation: the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary.
Sánchez, despite the fact that he went to the appointment “to listen” and unloading the pressure on Feijóo, has a proposal: he wants both leaders to commit to renewing the Judiciary before December 31, whoever governs governs.
Both parties were about to seal an agreement in October 2022, but the negotiation, practically closed, broke down after a telephone conversation in which Sánchez confirmed to Feijóo that he was going to modify the crimes of sedition and embezzlement.
The PSOE returns, therefore, to the load with this subject. Socialist sources claim that the PSOE and the PP “have been and are alternative government projects, but they have always been capable of preserve a series of basic consensusesfundamentally based on compliance with the Constitution and the rules of the game of our democracy”.
After the meeting between the two, Sánchez has convened in Ferraz, the national headquarters of the PSOE, a meeting of his Executive to inform them of what happened and talked with the leader of the PP.
