One day after the Supreme Court ruled that Álvaro García Ortiz incurred a “diversion of power” when he promoted Dolores Delgado to the highest category of the Fiscal Career, the Government of Pedro Sanchez He reported today that he maintains confidence in him and that he will once again be appointed Attorney General of the State.

According to government sources, García Ortiz will be appointed attorney general “until 2027” in the Council of Ministers that will be held on the 28th.

The current attorney general became head of the Public Ministry in September 2022 when the former Minister of Justice, Dolores Delgado, He resigned from the position of attorney general for health reasons and due to the intense wear and tear suffered during his time as head of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Her brief mandate has not been without controversy, much of it linked to her predecessor. The Prosecutor’s Office harshly criticized García Ortiz for promoting Delgado two months after taking office when the former minister was the one who had previously promoted him. Yesterday, the High Court noted that it was an “undeniable” case of “diversion of power” and annulled the aforementioned promotion to Military Prosecutor.

Months after this ‘destroy’, the current attorney general faced, in an unprecedented situation, the Fiscal Council to once again benefit Delgado and appoint her to the position that she always dreamed of and for which she fought to have it created: prosecutor of the Democratic Memory and Human Rights Room.
