According to Daymond, the overwhelming reception has been positive, exceeding expectations with viral TikToks, Reels, and a surge in wishlist numbers on platforms like Steam. The team seems confident that their unique premise will resonate with players.
“I think the fun part is everybody gets it. That’s nice to see. That was the fear. Are they gonna think this is just a joke, or are they gonna get that it runs deeper?”
Taking the Traditional Dating Sim Formula and Going Deeper
Daymond explained that while he’s played his fair share of dating sims, Sassy Chap Games wanted to go beyond the superficial. They aimed to create meaningful relationships, drawing inspiration from both Western and Eastern datingsim traditions.
“It *is* about the hot people, but that was something that we wanted to do that leaned into more like Eastern and traditional dating sims, where it’s like you’re really dating someone.”
To achieve this, the team poured their energy into crafting 100 unique and intriguing characters, each with their own stories, personalities, and aspirations. They also built a complex system that allows players to track their progress and see the consequences of their choices, leading to multiple endings.
