Scott Robertson Leads Barbarians in June Tour, Facing South Africa and Wales
Former All Blacks coach Scott Robertson will seize the helm of the Barbarians invitational side for a two-match tour in June 2026, marking his first coaching role since his departure from the New Zealand national team in January. The Barbarians will face reigning world champions South Africa and Wales in back-to-back fixtures.
Barbarians Schedule and Venues
The Barbarians will kick off their tour against South Africa at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Following this, they will travel to Twickenham, London, to play Wales on Saturday, June 27, with a double-header featuring both men’s and women’s matches. The men’s match will kick off at 2pm, and the women’s match at 5pm.
International Coaching Quartet
Robertson will be supported by a strong international coaching team, including Los Pumas head coach Felipe Contepomi, Racing 92 head coach Patrice Collazo, and Argentina assistant coach Kenny Lynn. The Barbarians club described the team as a “formidable international coaching quartet.”
Robertson’s Previous Barbarians Experience
This is not Robertson’s first involvement with the Barbarians. He has previously coached the side on four occasions: against New Zealand and Tonga in 2017, an All Blacks XV in 2022, and Wales in 2023. He expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “The Barbarians brings the rugby world together, so it’s special to be a part of it and to honour the jersey.”
Springboks’ Perspective
Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus welcomed the opportunity to host the Barbarians, stating, “It’s always exciting to face the BaaBaas and we are looking forward to hosting them in South Africa for the second year in a row.” He too highlighted the match as ideal preparation for their Nations Championship opener against England two weeks later.
Robertson’s Availability
Due to existing commitments, Robertson will not be available to coach any top-tier Test rivals until early 2027.
