Toronto Raptors’ Scottie Barnes Suffers Right Ankle Sprain

Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes left Monday night’s game against the New York Knicks with a suspected sprained right ankle.
The injury occurred midway through the third quarter when Barnes landed awkwardly after battling for a defensive rebound against Karl-Anthony Towns.

Barnes Assisted Off the Court

Barnes was helped off the court by teammates and hopped to the locker room, clearly unable to put weight on his right foot. The Raptors ultimately fell to the Knicks 113-108.

Early X-rays Negative, but More Evaluation Needed

Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic confirmed that initial X-rays on Barnes’ foot did not reveal a fracture. However, the young star will undergo further evaluation on Tuesday morning.

Barnes’ Injury History

This is not the first time Barnes has dealt with injury this season. Earlier this season, he missed 11 games due to a right orbital fracture. When he returned, he wore protective glasses for added protection.

A Crucial Player for Toronto

The 2022 NBA Rookie of the Year is a vital part of the Raptors’ core, enjoying career highs in points (21), rebounds (8.7) and assists (7.8) this season. He also signed a lucrative contract extension this summer that could reach $270 million if he continues to excel.

Next Game & Looking Ahead

Barnes’ status for Thursday’s game against the Miami Heat remains uncertain. The Raptors will be hoping for good news on Tuesday as they look to keep their season on track.
