Scottie Scheffler Out of The Sentry: Hand Injury For World Number One

World number one Scottie Scheffler will miss the opening tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour season, The Sentry, after undergoing surgery on a hand injury. The American sustained a puncture wound to his palm while preparing Christmas dinner, requiring surgery to remove shards of broken glass.

The PGA Tour confirmed Scheffler’s withdrawal on December 27, 2024, stating: “World number one and 2024 FedEx Cup Champion Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament, The Sentry, which will take place next week, January 2-5 at The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.”

Cause and Treatment

According to Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, the injury happened on Christmas Day while preparing dinner.

“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks,” Smith said.

The PGA Tour has announced that Scheffler plans to return to action at the American Express tournament on January 16th.

Golf Community Reactions

The golf community reacted with concern and well wishes for Scheffler’s swift recovery. Viktor Hovland of Norway, added to the pile of unfortunate injuries recently, shared an image on Instagram of his oddly bent little toe with the caption: “Bed frame 1-0 me.”

New Zealand’s Danny Lee commented:”Hope it’s not too bad bro.” In response to Hovland’s post, Collin Morikawa jokingly commented: “I’m wrapping myself in some bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii.”

What Next for Scheffler?

Scheffler, who won seven PGA Tour titles in 2023, will now turn his focus on recovering from surgery and getting back to full fitness before his scheduled return at The American Express.

The golf world will be anxious for his safe return to the course.
