Team Canada’s Goaltending Trio: A Look at the World Juniors Contenders
With the World Junior Championship roster announced, all eyes are on Team Canada and their quest for gold. One thing is certain: elite goaltending will be key to their success.
The Canadian team has a trio of talented netminders ready to compete. Here’s a closer look at each one:
Carter George – The Rising Star
Height: Six-foot-one
Weight: 190 pounds
Catches: Left
Team: Owen Sound Attack (OHL)
NHL Draft: Los Angeles Kings, second round, 57th overall (2024)
George, the second-rated goalie heading into last summer’s draft, was selected by the Kings in the second round. His athleticism and quick reflexes allow him to make acrobatic saves, appearing larger than his stature between the posts. He’s also exceptional at tracking the puck with his keen glove hand and ability to see through traffic.
Adding to his skillset, George excels at playing the puck, confidently stepping outside his crease to start offensive plays.
George proved his mettle by leading Team Canada to gold medals at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and World U18 Championship in 2023-24. Recognized for his on-ice contributions and academic excellence, he was named the top goaltender at the World U18 Championships and received the top scholastic player award in the OHL.
George appears to be the frontrunner for the starting job.
Carson Bjarnason – The Towering Presence
Height: Six-foot-four
Weight: 207 pounds
Catches: Left
Team: Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)
NHL Draft: Philadelphia Flyers, second round, 51st overall (2023)
Bjarnason, the biggest of the three netminders, offers a different dimension with his hybrid style. Bjarnason combines length with thoughtful positioning, making him a threat for pad saves and his stature naturally covers more of the net.

He’s having a solid season with the Wheat Kings, boasting a 2.90 GAA and .913 save percentage.
Bjarnason has already proven his ability on the international stage, winning a Hlinka Gretzky Cup gold and a World U18 Championship bronze medal.
Jack Ivankovic – The Young Gunslinger
Height: Five-foot-11
Weight: 178 pounds
Catches: Left
Team: Brampton Steelheads (OHL)
NHL Draft: 2025 Eligible
Ivankovic, the youngest of the trio and eligible for the 2025 draft, is already considered one of the top-ranked goaltenders in the world.
He showcased exceptional skill at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, leading Canada to gold with a stellar 0.75 GAA and .967 save percentage.
Ivankovic utilizes his athleticism and quick reflexes to compensate for his size. He’s incredibly aggressive, challenging shooters directly in front of the net, limiting their shooting options.

While Ivankovic may not get the starting nod in this tournament, he’s poised to gain invaluable experience alongside Canada’s veteran goaltenders.
What’s Next for Team Canada?
With three highly talented goaltenders vying for the starting spot, Canadians have a lot to look forward to at the upcoming World Junior Championships.
Will it be the seasoned experience of Carter George, the towering presence of Carson Bjarnason, or the youthful energy of Jack Ivankovic?
Stay tuned for an exciting tournament full of incredible saves and high-intensity matchups.
