See-Saw Films Exploring Sale or Investment as “Heartstopper” Producer On Tracks for Major Multimillion-Pound Deal
UK-based indie film and television production company See-Saw Films is examining a sale or investment opportunity, aiming for a potential deal worth millions of pounds. The news was first reported by UK trade publication Broadcast, and confirmed by Deadline.
See-Saw, known for its critically acclaimed productions such as The King’s Speech, Top of the Lake, Lion, Operation Mincemeat, Sweetpea, and the recent Apple TV+ hit, Slow Horses, has engaged UK investment bank ACF to assess its strategic options.
Industry sources suggest that the company’s strong recent success and evergreen library of content will likely command a significant premium, placing the potential deal in the low nine-figure pounds range.
See-Saw’s Financial Standing and Industry Recognition
Recent filings from the UK’s Companies House reveal that See-Saw Films generated £122.3 million ($158.8 million) in revenue in the financial year ending June 30, 2023, with a profit of around £4.5 million. These figures do not encompass revenue from Australia or other overseas operations.
The company’s impressive track record and robust financial performance have piqued interest from potential buyers. A source described See-Saw as “a class act,” highlighting its prestige and creative prowess within the industry.
Recent Success and Upcoming Projects
See-Saw’s recent slate of projects has solidified its position as a leading force in the industry. Beyond Slow Horses and Heartstopper, the company has produced Sweetpea, which debuted on Sky in the UK and Starz in the U.S., and is slated to release Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix next year.
Founded in 2008 by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, See-Saw Films is currently led by Joint Managing Directors Helen Gregory and Simon Gillis. Last year, they launched a joint venture, Fanboy, with Heartstopper executive producer Patrick Walters.
See-Saw Films has confirmed that they have been approached by potential bidders. The company’s future direction remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: See-Saw is poised to make a significant impact on the entertainment industry in the years to come.
